One of the best things that happened to me while in school was to begin a part-time business. Starting a part-time business as a student these days shouldn't be an option, it should be a necessity most especially if you are in Nigeria.

Every year graduates move into the labour market making it more difficult to secure a job.

In every 100 graduates with a job in Nigeria, there are 1,000 of them without a job.

According to statistics done in 2020

21,764,614 Nigerians were unemployed. This figure included those that experienced job loss, and those that joined the labor force (recent graduates and former housewives/stay home husbands). Myjobmag

As at November, 2021 it was reported that there are 2.9 million unemployed graduates. Myjobmag.com

I knew about the continuous growth of unemployment  while I was in the higher institution. I heard about so many graduates not able to secure a job.

sincerely, I wasn't willing to be disappointed in this way so I started a business on the side while in school. 

Not only did that business upgrade my understanding of how people earned money in life, it also supported me financially while and after my higher institution.

In today's article, I'll be suggesting some Businesses that you can do to make money as a student in Nigeria. 

#1) FACEBOOK MANAGER: In one of my attraction Marketing trainings, I have taken time to explain how a person can become a professional facebook manager and earn tons of money doing so.

Becoming a facebook manager is one of those businesses you can do as a student.

With an increasing number of people on facebook, business owners, churches, schools, celebrities, politicians e.t.c are becoming more aware of the necessity of them being on facebook but the only issue is that they don't have time to manage their accounts on this platform. 

You can fill in this gap and get paid as their facebook manager. 

#2) EMAIL MARKETING: Email marketing is another business you may want to consider as a student. This involves selling products or services via email. Here you can advertise a free offer and exchange that free offer for your prospect's email address which you can market your products and services or other people's Products and services to those prospects subsequently.

#3) WEB DESIGN:

Web design is a very lucrative business you can venture into as a student. It involves designing websites for individuals, business owners, schools, churches, associations e.t.c. with an increasing number of people longing to be more visible online, you can be making lots of money as a web designer. All you need to do is to get a professional to train you. within few months you will be good to go.

#4) WHATSAPP MARKETING: This is one of the recent ways  that alot of students are using to generate money while in school. Just like email Marketing but here your marketing is done on WhatsApp.

In WhatsApp Marketing, you can either advertise your WhatsApp group link, get your target market into the group and start marketing your products and services to them. 

If you already have  existing customers in your contact all you will do is to add them to your WhatsApp group and market to them from time to time. You can aswell use your status to sell your products. 

If you have any products or services you are marketing yet other channels seem expensive and time consuming, you may want to try WhatsApp Marketing.

#5) CONTENT MARKETING: This is a process of using write-ups specifically to market your products or services. Your sales copy determines how your marketing effort will convert. 

As a student you may want to go through copy writing training to be great at content Marketing. Once you are done with your training, you can use the skill for your business or you can be hired by other businesses, entrepreneurs and organisations.

#6) START A YOUTUBE CHANNEL:  Youtube is another income generating system. According to  influence marketing hub  On Average the YouTube channel can receive $18 per 1,000 ad views. This equates to $3 - $5 per 1000 video views.

In summary the more views you have, the more money you will earn. 

If you like the concept of making videos about what you like doing and earning money in the process, starting a YouTube channel maybe a great idea for you.

In 2021 the highest earner on Youtube earn $29.5 million you maybe the next highest earner in YouTube.

#7) DATA/ AIRTIME RESELLING BUSINESSES:   This is another Business you can be doing as a student. 

A lot of people are making good money from this business model. All you need to do is to  be a reseller between a network provider and a customer. The more customers you are able to service, the more commissions you will be able to accumulate. While you wouldn't succeed immediately, you want to get a mentor.

#8) BLOGGING: Blogging is another great business you can do as a student. In blogging you will own a website/blog where you write about your interest. You can permit different search engine services to place their ads on your blog and pay you commissions. You can equally place ads for individuals, organizations, churches e.t.c and charge money for doing so.

Just like YouTube, your commission is largely dependent on the size of your audience.

#9) MANAGE  ACTIVE FACEBOOK GROUPS:  This is another aspect that you can be using to earn money as a student. Here you need to grow as many facebook groups as you can then Advertise for people in those groups for a fee.

Business owners are always looking for Advertisment channels once they know that you have a reasonable number of audience in your group they will always request for your services.

#10) AFFILIATE MARKETING: 70% of internet marketers are affiliate marketers. This is a situation where you direct a customer to a manufacturer once that customer buys any product from that manufacturer, the manufacturer pays you a commission depending on what that customer bought. In affiliate marketing everything is automated, all you need to send to a prospective customer is your unique affiliate link as the person uses that link to purchase from the manufacturer, you earn from it.

#11) GRAPHICS DESIGNING: Graphic design is another wonderful business you can do as a student. With an increased use of the internet, the demand for using digital images are high. You can fill the gap in this demand. 

Here your income is directly proportional to how competent you are at the skill and self promotion. The better your work popularity, the more money you are likely to earn.

#12) SELL YOUR INFORMATION PRODUCTS:  We all have our unique strengths. Things that are very easy for you to do, maybe extremely difficult for me to do. The only way I can learn how to effectively do what you are good at is by learning from you. This can be done through what is called information Products.

You can document your training/Trainings in form of an ebook, video, audios or info graphics and sell to anyone who is interested in learning about your skills. Personally, I have different information Products that bring me additional income. you may want to try this if it appeals to you too.

#13) NETWORK MARKETING: This list won't be completed without this option. I joined the network marketing industry during my 300 level in the higher institution. It's one of the businesses you can do as a student without interrupting your studies. It involves connecting customers to a producer for a commission. Almost like affiliate marketing but in this case you earn when you repurchase from the company, also you equally earn anytime that customer buys again or introduces someone else to buy the company's Product.

All the above businesses are great for students because they can do them anytime they choose to. If you are a student or just looking for a side business you can be doing while doing your major work, these businesses may help.

Also, before going into any of these businesses, ensure to get a mentor. Look around and check those who are already successful in the business you want to do, obtain trainings from them even if it means you paying to get their knowledge do it. It will be worth it.
